The Supernova Effect: Our Primary Goal

Keep the following image in your mind for the rest of the page.

A Supernova event happens in the following stages:

1. A very massive star reaches the end of its life and through some physics shenanigans explodes.

2. The explosion creates a massive nebula and might leave behind a new type of star.

3. The explosion is so powerful that it creates new elements, including heavy metals, that otherwise wouldn't exist.

4. Over time this nebula forms new stars and solar systems. Our solar system is likely one of those systems.

There are variations and so on, but the above two links are the ones we care about the most. It is a 50/50 chance whether Carl Sagan is rolling in his grave right now.

So where am I going with this?

I want The Future Party to become a political supernova. To draw parallels to the above description:

1. A massive star: Have The Future Party advocate with a burning, larger-than-life passion the idea that the foundations of our society can be better and that a truce on most cultural debates is necessary to lay that foundation.

2. Going Supernova: Winning big at the elections, or at least changing our political discussions to focus on our fundamental issues would be our supernova moment. By directing our political and societal might towards strengthening our national foundations we believe that the nebula we leave behind us will be undoubtedly positive, even if someone else ends up leading.

3. The nebula of creation: Our ambitions are all in service of laying a foundation that others can also build upon. This is why our top policy priorities fall within these 4 pillars:

   1. A quality of life that gives people more time and energy to create

   2. Encouraged by a more dynamic democracy

   3. Supported by a more robust economy

   4. Built on top of an environment of mutual respect and self-expression

4. New stars: After doing the above, our main purpose would be achieved. What follows will be a wave of new ideas, innovations, and passion that will drive our society forward in a new direction, a better direction. Whether the Future Party stays as one of those stars is something only time can tell, but regardless I will be satisfied with the outcome.

Is it too dramatic of a vision? Perhaps, but it is the image that motivates me and really is the best way I could describe my long term vision in as few words as possible.

Lastly, the metaphor also includes a warning. Sometimes supernova events can create black holes that destroy everything around them. This is a warning to us at The Future Party because we must avoid falling down a path that destroys our own goals.

At the heart of my world view is a certainty that our current political movements have reached their ideological end. They can no longer handle the new realities of the 21st century and are stuck in a cycle of playing catch up. So, to fix our big problems something fundamental has to change, otherwise we risk falling into the traps of extremism.

I want The Future Party to become an unstoppable force of positive change.
