Public servants are less lazy and more bored

Government Labour

General Goals

  1. Enforce minimum 2 days work from home

    • Exceptions for national security departments

    • Rest is up to departments/teams

  2. Experiment with 4 day work weeks

    • 8 hr days

    • Or 9 hr days

  3. Add a technocratic promotion pathway

    • Currently promotions are only managerial

      • A different set of skills

      • Not all aspiring employees want to become managers

    • Managerial duties require bilingualism

      • Technical/skilled work doesn't benefit from that

    • A technocratic non-managerial, non-bilingual promotion system will help keep talent

    • The positions' pay would be close to but less than managers

      • If employees meets the same bilingualism requirement, they get paid the same as managers

Additional Goals

  1. Reform the category system

    • E.g.  EC, AS, IT, etc

    • Job duties don't match their category

    • Adds silly restrictions on public servants

    • Moving between categories is confusing

      • Transferring requirements and equivalencies are vague

      • Pay grades are all over the place

  2. Improve public servant access to productivity tools and technologies

  3. Fix that whole issue with incorrect pay after transferring departments

    • Wtf even

Notes

  1. Government should promote labour reform by example

  2. Government currently struggles to keep a motivated pool of good talent

  3. Employees are held back by a category system that is always two steps behind the industry
